Training and referrals to Citizens Advice to support your beneficiaries
If you work or volunteer for a local charity or support organisation, did you know that Citizens Advice Runnymede and Spelthorne can provide you with free training and referrals in to our advice services?
Citizens Advice ‘Advice First Aid’ program is an opportunity to upskill volunteers and staff working on the frontline to support vulnerable people in the community.
You and your team may come into contact with people for a whole range of reasons in your role, and you might realise they have a problem or that they need help, but you might not know exactly what to do about it.
If so, we can help. This program is just like ‘first aid’ – your team identifies the problem, provides some initial, basic help, but is also equipped to know when, and how, to call in the experts when necessary.
Currently, we are offering Advice First Aid training for free, because we know there are many people who urgently need help, but who may not be able to access it easily.
The program comprises three strands:
1. Training for frontline workers (volunteers or staff)
Our free half-day online or in-person interactive training course will provide you with the knowledge you need to deliver ‘Advice First Aid’. You’ll learn how to navigate effectively through the information on the Citizens Advice website to support people who are unable to do so for themselves. You’ll also learn how to recognise situations where more than first aid is needed and how to facilitate contact with our service.
2. Easy referral opportunities to get those in need quick access to our Advisers
We’ll make it clear exactly how and when you can contact us or directly refer in those you are supporting – whatever works best.
3. Ongoing support for you in delivering Advice First Aid
We’ll stay in contact with you after the training so that you can feedback to us any issues you’ve been getting, get help with any problems you’ve been facing and let us know if we can give you any further support.
